Spotted: Robyne Robinson of Rox

ImageLocal personality Robyne Robinson first made a name for herself on the airways and now is equally well-known as a designer — for her jewelry line Rox. In addition to selling the precious and semi-precious collection at Scheherazade, Robyne has been known to wander the corridors of Galleria. We ran into her this week and she filled us in on her latest happenings.

Q How long has your line been at Scheherazade?
A Rox has been at Scheherazade Jewelers since November 2012, and it’s a wonderful match.

Q What works for the Scheherazade customer?
A The Scheherazade customer wants unique designs that fit their lifestyle. They want to live in their jewelry, not tuck it away in a safe. They’re stylish. And smart. They know Scheherazade will always work with designers who are trendsetters.

Q In addition to creating beautiful jewelry, Rox has a philanthropic mission too — tell us more about it.
A Rox believes in philanthropic global design — I like to partner with micro businesses in developing countries on textiles and materials that go into my designs. Bags by Hand, a women’s collective in South Africa, made gift bags for Rox with symbolic designs by the N’debele peoples. In turn, the fee they earned from Rox helped orphans with HIV/AIDS in their community.

Q What is your favorite piece in the store right now?
A My favorite piece from my collection is a Tibetan prayer pendant necklace made of Moonstone and Aquamarine. It has a Burmese coin, Indian brass bells and brass from Afghanistan. It’s a lovely necklace, and very bohemian. You can wear it from day to evening, from jeans to dress.

ImageQ What is inspiring your work these days?
A The world inspires my work! I love reading about the mythology and properties of gemstones; fascinated by the Ayervedic studies on color. And I’m a devoted fan of Dr. Neil Shubin. His latest work, “The Universe Within” explains we are naturally attracted to stones because we are a part of them. So couple all that with traveling, visiting museums and watching style and culture around the world — and you’re always inspired.

Q Why do you think your pieces connect so well with the Edina community?
A Rox Jewelry Designs are for anyone who is passionate about culture, has their own sense of style, and enjoys jewelry that tells a story. I think the Edina customer knows they’re fortunate to have a lifestyle that indulges their wanderlust and adventure — and they cherish it with a keepsake. That’s Rox.

Q What do you like to do at Galleria?
A I love the Galleria — it’s so relaxed, bright and spacious.  I love to have a Keilani’s Roll at Crave, or the Lobster Cobb salad at Pittsburgh Blue. And Big Bowl! I’m dying for a spa day at Lili… and Pumpz has great deals on hot shoes. I’m a big fan of Eileen Fisher, too.
